I would like to do a post on how to support Israel’s right to exist, at least within its generally-agreed-upon borders, without being racist/Islamophobic (basically a counterpart to this post), because I’ve seen a lot of my people being outrageously racist and would like to help collect them. However, not being Palestinian, Arab, or Muslim myself, I’m (a) not comfortable simply holding myself up as an expert on this, because I’m not, and (b) not comfortable making proclamations in your name or talking over you.
The tentative list I’ve drawn up: using any kind of slur, calling people “animals” or “savages,” claiming Palestinians don’t love their children, claiming Palestinian child victims aren’t “innocent” because they’re “taught to hate,” claiming Islam is inherently violent and evil, using the “we made the desert bloom” trope, putting Palestine/Palestinians in quotation marks or claiming they don’t exist, using the “a land without a people for a people without a land” trope, calling Arabs “Amalek” or referencing biblical wars of extermination, depicting Arabs/Palestinians in art as racial stereotypes, talking over people mourning Palestinian casualties by demanding that Israeli casualties also be mentioned, and saying Palestinians can just go back to “their real countries.”
If you would like me not to do a post like this, tell me, and I won’t.
If you would like to write a similar post yourself, tell me, and I’ll be happy to reblog from you instead of writing my own.
If you would like me to go ahead and write the post, but you have additions or suggestions to make, tell me, and I will include them.
If you want me to fuck off and die, you can tell me that, too.
I’m at your disposal and ready to listen.
