allenahurwitz asked: So we should accept "palestine as a place" and their "right for land" but we shouldn't expect them to do the same. Your points 11 and 15 are contradicting each other. I see your points in the dehumanizing aspect, and honestly I feel bad for the innocent Palestinians who Hamas is using as a shield, but is that Israel's fault? No. You're praying for peace- Israel is trying to ensure it by killing terrorists. i hope people are afraid to bomb Israel ever again.
Oh boy. Where to start?
So we should accept “palestine as a place” and their “right for land” but we shouldn’t expect them to do the same.
Palestinians exist. That’s a fact. Israel has a legal right to exist, at least within its recognized borders. Also a fact. However, demanding that one or the other side publicly or repeatedly affirm those facts is a tactic used to (a) prevent the other side from making its points by forcing a change in topic and (b) present your side as the arbiter of what constitute “legitimate” views.
No, you don’t get to shout over other people and call it dialog. File that under “really fucking obvious.”
Your points 11 and 15 are contradicting each other.
Point 11: Don’t claim there’s “no such thing” as Palestine or Palestinians.
Point 15: Don’t demand that Palestinians or their allies take public note of Israeli casualties, affirm Israel’s right to exist, or publicly repudiate Hamas.
You use that word “contradictory.” I do not think it means what you think it means.
I also think you’ve failed to read this post, in which I address the same bullshit from pro-Palestinian groups against Jews. Read it, absorb it, and if you still want to whine about how unfair or one-sided I am, you can come back and make a better stab at intelligent argument. (See in particular Point 3 and Point 10, which correlate pretty directly to Points 11 and 15 of this list.)
I see your points in the dehumanizing aspect, and honestly I feel bad for the innocent Palestinians who Hamas is using as a shield, but is that Israel’s fault? No.
Uh, yes. Yes it is. When you confine a bunch of people to one densely-populated spot, deny them freedom to move anywhere else, shell the shit out of them, and then say “Well, if they hadn’t lived so close to Hamas, this wouldn’t have happened,” YES it is your fucking fault. When you exercise absolute control over those people but deny them political representation, assassinate their chosen leaders, cut off food and medical supplies, imprison them without charges or trial, and allow your citizens to steal their land, homes, and very lives with impunity, YES you are in part to blame for the fact they launch rockets back.
I am sorry that your Israeli* privilege has blinded you and made you ignorant, but that’s not an excuse. During ceasefires, Israelis live free from molestation and violence. During ceasefires, Palestinians continue to be harassed, robbed, shot, detained without trial, and nearly starved. If you turn a blind eye to that or claim it doesn’t matter, you are a shitty person. Period. End of discussion.
You’re praying for peace- Israel is trying to ensure it by killing terrorists.
And Israel has succeeded marvelously at that, I must say. (Yes, that was sarcasm. However could you tell?)
i hope people are afraid to bomb Israel ever again.
In other words, “let’s bomb the shit out of them to make them realize that bombing the shit out of people doesn’t accomplish anything.” Which is inherently illogical, because even if you succeed at your immediate objective, you actually prove the point you were trying to disprove (namely that the way to get populations to accede to your will is to bomb them a lot).
I tend to prefer defense plans that have a prayer in hell of working, personally.
Being young and naive doesn’t give you a pass to be racist. Neither does being Jewish. If you can’t support Israel without being racist, then for the good of Israel, you need to shut up and let the adults do the talking.
